Muzeum Archeologiczne w Krakowie

     Muzeum Archeologiczne w Krakowie jest najstarszą placówką tego typu w Polsce, a powstała ona w 1850 roku. Początkowo mieściło się w Bibliotece Jagiellońskiej przy ul. św. Anny, zanim w 1864 roku przeniesiono je na ul. Sławkowską 17, a później (w 1967 roku) do obecnego miejsca przy ulicy Senackiej 3.

 

     Jego powstanie było poprzedzone apelem do społeczeństwa o przekazywanie znalezisk archeologicznych, co doprowadziło do znacznego powiększenia zbiorów muzealnych, w tym m.in. posągu Światowida ze Zbrucza. Muzeum rozpoczęło również własne badania archeologiczne, które przyniosły kolejne cenne eksponaty, szczególnie z obszaru Małopolski.

 

     Obecnie Muzeum Archeologiczne w Krakowie prezentuje zarówno wystawy stałe, jak i czasowe, a także prowadzi aktywną działalność wydawniczą, wydając m.in. serię "Biblioteka MAK" oraz czasopismo "Materiały Archeologiczne".
